about
Formally known as "Hummingbird", Emily Kate Boyd wrote this song for her mentor and friend, Seth Godin. Godin invited her to participate in a unique alternative MBA (SAMBA) program in 2009, where she discovered the courage to overcome her crippling fear. This experience reignited her passion to make a difference and bring positive change to the world.
lyrics
Moving within me like opening wings,
A butterfly landing,
A hummingbird sings.
Inside of this wasteland,
I find a rose,
Follow the wild call,
The sound of my word.
As soon as I said it,
You had me declare it.
And the weight of my promise
Brought sweat to my brow
Been lost in a dream of myself as someone who would let you down
Some speak about a freedom in dazzling frames
In awe of the shimmer and rattle of chains.
But there’s a hook in the worm dear
And no sign of release,
I can choose to be scared now or choose to be free
I'm not looking for trouble
That’s too close for comfort
Or for a new darlin' with an old idea
Been lost in a dream of myself as someone with nothing to give
Separate from the rest like a bird from the nest,
fill the space in my chest with desire.
As I fall through the air,
Every breath is a prayer,
No occasion for fear of the flight,
In a dream of myself as someone who will save a life
No room for regrets here,
My eyes are a new clear.
I have what it takes, dear, to serve my own needs
In a a dream of myself as someone who will take the lead
